Merchant-Ivory Productions, famous for their films exploring Indian-European relations, is the studio behind THE PERFECT MURDER. The film is based on the first novel in a series by H.R.F. Keating featuring Inspector Ghote of the Bombay police department, played here by prolific Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah. Ghote is investigating an assault on the secretary of a rich mogul, and is assisted on the case by a Swedish forensics expert (international character actor Stellan Skarsgard, of BREAKING THE WAVES and GOOD WILL HUNTING). As Ghote and his ally get closer to the solution of the case, it becomes more complex than they initially expected, involving the powerful upper echelons of society.
