After the brutal murder of his wife (Rani Mukherjee) by a group of Muslims in Calcutta, Saket Ram (Kamal Hassan) turns to anger, and then to extremism. He's recruited by a group that wants him to assassinate Mahatma Ghandhi, in this complex historical thriller (written and directed by Hassan) that also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Shahrukh Khan, and Vasundhara Das.
Based on some historical facts with fiction added in good meaures, 'Hey Ram' is a 'Bollywood' spin on the historical event of Gandhi's assassination. The film however is realistic in its depiction of the philosophy and of the followers of the philosophy that lead to Gandhi's killing.
