Screened on 10 November 2006 in the United Nations auditorium, 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' was the first Hindi film to be shown at the UN.
This is a Hindi comedy (with English subtitles) showing Gandhi's principle being adopted by a dangerous but lovable gangster for everything from improving people's romantic lives to solving their financial problems.
While the treatment is comical with superb performances by the two lead male characters, the film itself lends beautifully to Gandhian ideology of non-violence and compassion. It looks at some universal and timeless elements of Gandhi's philosophy when most people feel that Gandhi's thoughts are outdated and of no contemporary value.
