Gandhi Collection

This Collection of 9 films attempts to capture many facets of Gandhi's personal and political life. 'Gandhi' the Oscar winning epic; acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal's 'The Making of The Mahatma' showing early years of Gandhi's political life in South Africa; and our upcoming attraction 'Gandhi My Father' focusing on personal life of Gandhi and his son Harilal are biographical in nature but differ vastly in their style and scope. 'Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - A Historical Perspective'; 'Water'; and 'Munnabhai Meets Gandhi' are films that shed light on Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence and social justice in unique ways. The documentary on MLK shows the life of the Civil Rights activist who took inspiration from Gandhian philosophy to resist racism, 'Water' is a feature narrative of the life of Hindu widows in India with Gandhi's movement for social reforms in the back-drop; 'Munnabhai Meets Gandhi' is a Hindi comedy (with English subtitles) showing Gandhi's principle being adopted by a dangerous but lovable gangster! The last three films are about Gandhi's assassination - 'Nine Hours to Rama' a film banned in India since its release in 1963 depicts life of Nathuram Godse, Gandhi's assassin; 'Hey Ram' in Hindi (with English subtitles) is fictional story of a man who almost took part in Gandhi's assassination; and 'I did not Kill Gandhi' a Hindi narrative (with English subtitles) is a multi layered psychological drama of an old man who believes that he was accused of Gandhi's assassination.
